In EllwangenHistory just outside our door
The historic old town begins right outside our door. The late Romanesque Basilica of St Vitus on the market square, the Baroque chapter houses and the winding lanes are all within easy walking distance. Also worth seeing are the Alamanni Museum, Ellwangen Castle high above the town with its Renaissance arcaded courtyard, and the pilgrimage church on the Schönenberg.
Around EllwangenLakes, nature and historic towns
For a day outdoors, the Ellwanger Seenland offers lakes for swimming as well as cycling and walking routes. The Bucher Reservoir near Rainau is especially popular, with a circular path, beach and the adjoining Limes Park. The medieval old towns of Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen also make rewarding day trips; in Nördlingen you can walk all the way around the city walls.
